#wanderingseouls / DAY 1 OF 143

As I am typing this post, I am still not believing the fact that I am here in Korea, and am gonna be here for the next 4 months or so. When our flight touched down, the temperature dipped as it rained a little. We spent 3 hours at the airport simply getting the misc stuffs settled, like getting our SIM card. Speaking of which, I really like this idea of purchasing EGSIM cards online in advance and collect them directly at Kbooks on Level 1 of Incheon Airport. Furthermore, the phone automatically connects to OllehWifi which is available almost everywhere? I'm not joking when I say the coverage is freaking awesome, if only we can have this in Singapore, we wouldn't care about the meagre 2-3GB data we're given!

My first time in Korea, and was expecting alot from Incheon Airport known for its awards received but other the awesome toilet seat (lines plastic on the seat and changes with the press of a button!), I really think there's none like Changi. Anyway, the journey from Incheon to my hostel, Rachel Livingtel located at Anam station was a really adventurous. We wanted to save up and took Korail (T-money card available at convenience stores at 2500KRW) and the trip on train would take approx 1.5h at only 4150KRW. Definitely the choice over cabbing, but the 4 of us lugging luggages of 30+ kg each was seriously burden max. We had to take elevators wherever possible and it wasn't easy pushing them over the uneven roads. I tried taking the escalator but my bigass luggage ended falling and it was spinning at the same spot while I'm trying to get down to it yet also stepping on the same spot. It was a really funny moment now that I recall hahaha :'D At Anam station, the ultra inhumanely steep slopes and uneven roads weren't even funny. We were all sweating and aching all over by the time we finally reached in the afternoon.

Checked in to Rachel Livingtel (which I absolutely adore the service but the super friendly family of owners) and headed to fill our tummies! Picked this korean-chinese restaurant just opp us 'cos I've really been wanting try the authentic ones here and it's so good!

This set of jjamppong, jjajangmyun and tangsuyok costs 17,000KRW which we shared among the 4 of us and we were completely satisfied. The servings are so huge and it's super good!

Jjamppong which is basically seafood spicy noodles, all covered with mussels as if they're free, and the soup is super fresh and spicy, really really addictive!

I don't really fancy jjajangmyun, bean paste noodles 'cos those that I've tried before are mostly sweet and personally, I don't like savoury food sweet. This is perfect 'cos it's not overly sweet yet a little spicy.

Tangsuyok, sweet pork which serves as a really refreshing snack aside the mains. Can't express how happy that our first meal is already so amazingggggg, happy tummy :D

Shopped around our hostel and settled for Patbingsu, shaved ice! It's a quaint little cafe on the 2nd level and the joy of discovery (quoting you Esther ;)) is so satisfying.

This awesome indulgence is 9000KRW but worth every single penny. Serving was enough for the 4 of us and the mochi is like WAHHHHH so goodddd. Topped with condensed milk, ah can't be better than this. The shaved ice is not just like the Taiwan ones you eat, it's so so fluffy and soft, paired with the fine peanut, WOW PERFECT :')

Day 1 ends abruptly as we heads back to pack and settle in our little cave for the next few months. Perhaps later on I'd post more about Rachel Livingtel since when I searched last time, there wasn't much info I could find, but so far I'm really happy about the hostel and it's worth sharing such a cosy place for students like us :) No pictures of us as we are all terribly shag from the night flight which I barely caught a wink and the luggage the entire morning. I also do realise how important it is to know Korean here, I am getting around with my broken Korean but thank goodness it works. Hopefully I'll master the language as least conversantly this fall. Anyway stay tuned, this blog shall get more alive and exciting :D
