Beware, a longass wordy post just to record my experience, skip it if you're a visual person hahaha!
For the longest time ever in my life, I wanted to try out for an audition. I really like to sing be it shower-singing or KTV so even though I can't say my singing is great, I wanted to see if I have what it takes for an audition. Like during sec 3, I almost wanted to join Campus Superstar but chickened out in the end because I knew I didn't had the courage to.
Chanced upon several musical-related CCAs just 2 days ago and found Amplified and Voices! Both are CCAs where bands are formed to perform for gigs except that Voices perform solely MandoPop. I don't know where and how I got the courage from, I just registered immediately when I saw it hahaha. I thought that since I didn't have the courage to audition for any competitions, at least trying out to join a CCA shouldn't be that challenging right. :P
We were required to perform 2 songs, one English and one of another language which should consist of a slow and an upbeat song. Until very last minute then I finalised my songs - A Thousand Years by Christina Perri and 一比一 by 范玮琪 !
Olivia and Shi Ting also registered for the auditions but we all had different time slots. We only got to know that it was actually gonna be in a form of batch auditions! Damn scary max, I was already freaking nervous the entire time and was super worried for my English song because I really can't pull them off well! Waited up to 2 hours before it was our turn so I had to cancel my movie with Justin who just booked out from camp! ):
Since we were the last group to get in, the group had 7 people instead of 5 which made it scarier. In the clubroom, we were tested tone deaf by singing notes of different octaves played on a guitar and I think I sound like shit at first. Damn nervous lol. Then they got us to sing our songs that we've prepared.
I attempted A Thousand Years first because I was worried that I'll do damn badly for it so might as well just clear it first. But I was too damn nervous that my tempo went all off and my high notes didn't reach how I always do when I practised -.- It was seriously quite bad. And honestly speaking, most of the people inside really can sing.
I guessed my Chinese song saved me. I'm quite confident when it comes to singing Chinese songs teehee so my groove and tempo was alright and the coach didn't allow me to finish my song because he thinks it's good :P & he asked me to apply my feelings and techniques back to my English song because he can see I'm those type of people that can sing Chinese better than English! Lol. Panic max. I think I calmed down afterwards so my tempo was a lot better than the first attempt :/
It was really competitive so he gave us like a bonus round to sing another song if we really wanted to join. I ended up singing 'When you're gone' which I didn't even prepare for. Lucky nothing went wrong haha but they didnt allow me to sing anymore Chinese songs which I initially wanted to cos they say I'm already good in that -.-
Overall it was a great audition experience since I didn't expect much, just wanna see how I can perform under stress and see what I could do :)
Results came out by midnight and it's shocking how I managed to pull through the first round as I heard only 2 out of 7 from my group got in only. I'm positive my English song was quite sucky lol, in addition to the fact that a lot from the group can really sing! & my woes come in now since we;re assigned to sing either Set fire to the rain OR A thousand years for the next round. FML WHY DID I SING A THOUSAND YEARS THIS ROUND! Now it makes it almost impossible to sing it again so I'm left with the super difficult song ugh. Need to choose another Chinese song too! STRESS.
P.S. D&D happened on the same day to be posted soon :D
